アリシア・キーズ（Alicia Keys）を司会に迎えた米国音楽界最大の祭典、第61回グラミー賞（61st Annual Grammy Awards）授与式が現地時間2月10日、ロサンゼルスのステイプルズ・センターで開催。サプライズで登場したミシェル・オバマ（Michelle Obama）による「音楽の力」のスピーチで幕を開けたセレモニーでゴールデン・ナイトを飾ったのは、最多4冠に輝いたカントリー歌手ケイシー・マスグレイヴスとラッパー、チャイルディッシュ・ガンビーノ。
ケイシー・マスグレイヴス（Kacey Musgraves）は『Golden Hour』で主要部門「年間アルバム賞」を受賞、またカントリー部門で「最優秀カントリー・アルバム賞」の受賞を果たした他、同アルバム収録曲「Space Cowboy」で「最優秀カントリー・ソング賞」、「Butterflies」で「最優秀カントリー・ソロ・パフォーマンス賞」を受賞。ドレイク（Drake） 『Scorpion』、ポスト・マローン（Post Malone）『Beerbongs & Bentleys』、ブランディ・カーライル（Brandi Carlile）『By the Way, I Forgive You』、ハー（H.E.R.）『H.E.R.』、映画『ブラックパンサー』サントラなど話題作を抑えてのAlbum of the Yearに”ナッシュビル・スター”の30歳は受賞スピーチで「オー・マイ・ゴット…、何と言ったらいいのか…」。
「こんなにも話題作の中でこのカテゴリーにノミネートされたのも信じられなかったのに…、本当にクレイジー。でも心から感謝しています」、「受賞したことは他のアルバムよりも優れていることを意味するものではありません。みんなとても素晴らしい作品です」、そして関係者、家族、ファンらに感謝を捧げました。
チャイルディッシュ・ガンビーノ（Childish Gambino）のアーティスト名で音楽活動を行う俳優ドナルド・グローヴァー（Donald Glover）はこの日欠席し、パフォーマンスのオファーも辞退。昨年、警察による不当な組織的暴力など黒人差別と銃社会を風刺したミュージック・ビデオでヴァイラルとなった「This Is America」が「年間レコード賞」及び「年間ソング賞」を受賞しました。（白人優位とされてきたグラミー賞で）ラップ・ソングが主要部門「年間レコード大賞」、あるいは主要部門「年間ソング賞」を受賞するのは史上初で、ダブルでの歴史的快挙。
チャイルディッシュ・ガンビーノは主要2部門制覇のほか、「This Is America」で「最優秀Rap/Sungパフォーマンス賞」、「最優秀MV賞」を受賞し最多タイ4冠。「年間レコード賞」では、昨年全米で最もヒットしたドレイク「God’s Plan」をはじめ、カーディ・Bら「I Like It」、レディー・ガガらの『アリー/ スター誕生』主題歌「Shallow」、ケンドリック・ラマーらの『ブラックパンサー』主題歌「All the Stars」、ポスト・マローンら「Rockstar」など注目曲を抑えての受賞となりました。
デュア・リパ
デュア・リパ（Dua Lipa）は主要部門「最優秀新人賞」、そして「Electricity」で「最優秀ダンス・レコーディング賞」の受賞を果たし、自身初のグラミー賞受賞で貫禄の2冠。「最優秀新人賞」のスピーチで、「今年こんなにも多くの女性アーティストと一緒にノミネートされて大変光栄です。今年私たちは”ステップ・アップ”したわね」。昨年グラミー賞で男性アーティストがノミネーションを占めただけではなく受賞の大部分を占め、「#GrammysSoMale」（グラミーは男ばっかり）と批判を浴びた上、（グラミー賞主催）レコーディング・アカデミーのトップNeil Portnowが女性アーティストらに「ステップアップ」すべきと発言したことがさらに大きな波紋となっていました。「最高の私へ導いてくれた私のファンのみんなに心から感謝申し上げます」ライブ・パフォーマンスではセイント・ヴィンセント（St. Vincent）の「Masseduction」と絡ませる艶やかな「One Kiss」で盛り上げました。
女性の躍進
今年のグラミー賞では女性アーティストが多数受賞を果たしライブ・パフォーマンスでも大きく活躍。ブラッドリー・クーパー（Bradley Cooper）との『アリー/ スター誕生』主題歌「Shallow」が「年間レコード賞」及び「年間ソング賞」でノミネートされていたレディー・ガガ（Lady Gaga）は、その主要部門を外したものの、ポップ部門で「Shallow」が「最優秀ポップ・デュオ/グループ・パフォーマンス賞」、「最優秀ビジュアル・メディア作曲賞」、「Joanne」が「最優秀ポップ・ソロ・パフォーマンス賞」に輝き3冠を達成。ライブ・パフォーマンスでは熱情の「Shallow」を披露し会場を熱くさせました。
またレッドカーペットでサンドロ・ボッティチェッリ「ヴィーナスの誕生」を想起させるティエリー・ミュグレーによる1995年ヴィンテージ・ドレスでも注目を集めたカーディ・B（Cardi B）は『Invasion of Privacy』で「最優秀ラップ・アルバム賞」を受賞。女性アーティストが「最優秀ラップ・アルバム賞」を受賞したのは史上初めて。自身初のグラミー賞受賞で歴史的快挙を達成しました。またライブ・パフォーマンスでは圧巻の「Money」で沸かせました。
今回5つの最優秀アルバム賞で女性アーティストが受賞。前述の「年間アルバム賞」、「最優秀カントリー・アルバム賞」のケイシー・マスグレイヴス、「最優秀ラップ・アルバム賞」にカーディ・Bの他、自身初のグラミー賞受賞となったアリアナ・グランデ（Ariana Grande）が『Sweetener』で「最優秀ポップ・ヴォーカル・アルバム賞」、そしてハー（H.E.R.）が『H.E.R.』で「最優秀R&Bアルバム賞」を受賞し、女性アーティストによる5つのアルバム賞受賞はグラミー賞初の快挙となりました。
ライブ・パフォーマンスでは、カミラ・カベロ（Camila Cabello）らによる「Havana」でキックオフ。グラミー賞授与式に先立ち特別栄誉賞「ミュージケアーズ・パーソン・オブ・ザ・イヤー」を受けたドリー・パートン（Dolly Parton）はケイティ・ペリー（Katy Perry）、マイリー・サイラス（Miley Cyrus）、ケイシー・マスグレイヴス、マレン・モリス（Maren Morris）、リトル・ビッグ・タウン（Little Big Town）らとともに「Here You Come Again」、「Jolene」、「9 to 5」などヒット曲メドレーを披露。また昨年8月に亡くなったアレサ・フランクリン（Aretha Franklin）のため、アンドラ・デイ（Andra Day）、ヨランダ・アダムズ（Yolanda Adams）、ファンテイジア・バリーノ（Fantasia Barrino）らが代表曲「(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman」を天上に響く美しいハーモニーで歌い上げトリビュートを捧げました。

※『第61回グラミー賞』の対象となるのは、2017年10月1日から2018年9月30日までに米国内でリリースされた音楽及びミュージック・ビデオで、主催のレコーディング・アカデミー（the Recording Academy）によると、全84部門にわたり21,000を超える申請があったという。ノミネーションはミュージシャン、プロデューサー、レコーディング・エンジニアなど音楽のプロフェッショナルらからなるレコーディング・アカデミー会員、そしてレコード会社から申請を受けたものをエキスパートがジャンル別に分け（Screening）、その後レコーディング・アカデミーの投票メンバーによってノミネーション（Nomination）が決定。その際投票メンバーは主要4部門に加えて、各々専門の分野のカテゴリに投票するという。受賞を決める最終的な投票（Final Voting）もレコーディング・アカデミーの投票メンバーが行う。
