現地時間2月12日（日）、米ロサンゼルス、ステイプルズ・センターにて米音楽界最高峰の祭典、第59回グラミー賞（59th Annual Grammy Awards）の授与式が開催。英アデル（Adele）が最新アルバム『25』でグラミー最高栄誉賞にあたる最優秀アルバム賞（Album of the Year）を受賞した他、同アルバム収録曲「Hello」で最優秀レコード賞（Record of the Year）、最優秀楽曲賞（Song of the Year）を受賞し、主要3部門を独占受賞し、また最優秀ポップ・ヴォーカル・アルバム賞（Best Pop Vocal Album）、最優秀ポップ・ソロ・パフォーマンス賞（Best Pop Solo Performance）を受賞、全ノミネート部門受賞で、最多タイ5部門でグラミー賞を獲得しました。
一方、主要3部門を含む最多9部門でノミネートされ、自身初の最優秀アルバム賞、最優秀レコード賞受賞を目指す米ビヨンセ（Beyoncé）は、最新アルバム『Lemonade』での最優秀アーバン・コンテンポラリー・アルバム賞（Best Urban Contemporary Album）及び同アルバム収録曲「Formation」での最優秀MV賞（Best Music Video）の2部門という結果に。「ビヨンセvsアデル」が注目されるノミネーションとなっていたものの、アデル圧巻の独占受賞という形となりました。
グラミー賞史上初の歴史的偉業
2012年第54回グラミー賞で最優秀アルバム賞（前作『21』）、最優秀レコード賞（同収録曲「Rolling in the Deep」）、最優秀楽曲賞（同収録曲「Rolling in the Deep」）の主要3部門を同時受賞した28歳英歌姫は、今回再び同主要3部門を独占受賞したことにより、最優秀アルバム賞、最優秀レコード賞、最優秀楽曲賞のグラミー主要3部門を2度独占受賞したグラミー賞史上初のアーティストという歴史的偉業を達成。
ビヨンセを思うアデルの感動スピーチ
ティム・マグロウ（Tim McGraw）、フェイス・ヒル（Faith Hill）をプレゼンターに最高栄誉賞、最優秀アルバム賞を受賞したアデルはその最も注目されるスピーチで、「…心から深く感謝の意を申し上げます。5年前私はこの場所にいました、私は妊娠をしておりその時は知らなかったのですが、そのすぐ後、人生で最大の祝福を授かっているということを知りました。妊娠中そして母親になる中で、自分自身を見失いました。もがき続けそして今も何とか母親になろうと、努力を続けています。とても大変なことです。でも今夜、この賞のおかげで、このように元の場所に戻りほんの少し自分自身に戻ることを感じさせてくれました。」と感極まり、その歓びと感謝を溢れさせます。
しかし、当時11歳の頃からデスティニーズ・チャイルド（Destiny’s Child）のビヨンセのファンでもあるアデルは、共にノミネートされたビヨンセにその賞を捧げます。「しかし、私はこの賞をとても受け取ることは出来ません。大変恐縮するとともに身に余る光栄で感謝しております。しかし私の人生のアーティストはビヨンセです。そして『Lemonade』はまさに不朽の作でした。ビヨンセさん、とても歴史的なアルバムだわ、熟考され、とても美しく、魂が込められたものだわ。あなたがいつも見せないあなたのもう一つの側面を私たちは目を向け、感謝しなければならないわ、そしてここにいる私たちアーティストは皆あなたを慕っているわ。あなたは私たちの光であり、私や私の友達、私の黒人の友達に活力を与え立ち上がる力を与えてくれる。あなたを愛している、これまでもこれからも」そうビヨンセに語りかけると、双子の命を宿すビヨンセは笑顔でその目に涙を浮かべます。
「グラミーの皆さん、感謝しております。アカデミーの皆さん、愛しているわ。私のマネージャー、私の夫、私の息子、あなた達は私がそうする唯一の理由です。本当にありがとう。みんな本当に本当にありがとう」と感謝を言葉にし、2011年以来交際し、現在4歳となっているアデルの息子アンジェロくん（Angelo）の父親サイモン・コネッキー（Simon Konecki、現在42歳）と結婚していたことを、初めて公の場で認めました。
“As you can see, it took an army to make me strong and willing again and to do it, and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. And five years ago, when I was last here, I also was pregnant and I didn’t know, and I… found out shortly after, which was the biggest blessing of my life. And, in my pregnancy and through becoming a mother, I lost a lot of myself. I mean I’ve struggled, and I still do struggle, being a mum. It’s really hard. But tonight, winning this kind of feels full circle and like a bit of me has come back to myself, but I can’t possibly accept this award. And I’m very humbled, and I’m very grateful and gracious, but my artist of my life is Beyoncé, and this album for me, the Lemonade album, was just so monumental. Beyoncé, it was so monumental, and so well-thought out and so beautiful and soul-bearing. And we all got to see another side to you that you don’t always let us see and we appreciate that and all us artists here adore you. You are our light and the way that you make me and my friends feel, the way you make my black friends feel is empowering and you make them stand up for themselves. And I love you. I always have, and I always will. Grammys, I appreciate it. The Academy I love you. My manager, my husband, and my son, you’re the only reason I do it. Thank you so much. ストリーミング時代の新たなグラミー賞の形
グラミー賞主要4部門の残りの一つ、最優秀新人賞（Best New Artist）では、ケルシー・バレリーニ（Kelsea Ballerini）、マレン・モリス（Maren Morris）らカントリー界の大型新星、爆発的人気を博するザ・チェインスモーカーズ（The Chainsmokers）に、アンダーソン・パーク（Anderson Paak）らメインストリームで熱い注目を集めるアーティストらを抑えて、チャンス・ザ・ラッパー（Chance The Rapper）が受賞。またチャンスはストリーミング向けアルバム「Coloring Book」で最優秀ラップ・アルバム賞（Best Rap Album）、同アルバム収録曲「No Problem」（feat. 故デヴィッド・ボウイ自身初の同音楽部門賞
アデルの5部門受賞と同じく最も多くグラミー賞を受賞を記録したのは、昨年1月に肝癌により死去した英ロック界のレジェンド、デヴィッド・ボウイ（David Bowie）。通算25枚目で亡くなる2日前にリリースされたスタジオ・アルバム『Blackstar』のタイトル曲で最優秀ロック・パフォーマンス賞（Best Rock Performance）、最優秀ロック楽曲賞（Best Rock Song）を受賞、同アルバムで最優秀アルタナティブ・ミュージック・アルバム賞（Best Alternative Music Album）、最優秀レコーディング・パッケージ賞（Best Recording Package）、最優秀エンジニアード・アルバム・ノンクラシカル賞（Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical）の最多タイ5部門を受賞し、全てのノミネート部門で受賞を果たしました。これまでグラミー賞で受賞していたのは、1985年のショートフィルム『Jazzin’ for Blue Jean』の最優秀ミュージック・ビデオ賞（当時”Best Video, Short Form”）及び2006年グラミー賞Lifetime Achievement Awardのみで、（そのレガシーからは驚くべき事実ではあるが）音楽部門としては今回が初めての受賞となりました。

垣根を超える豪華ライブ・パフォーマンス
英ジェームズ・コーデン（James Corden）をホストに迎え、アデルの「Hello」でキックオフしたグラミー賞、その米CBSでライブ中継された同ライブ・パフォーマンスは、アデルをはじめ、ザ・ウィークエンド（The Weeknd）、ダフト・パンク（Daft Punk）、キース・アーバン（Keith Urban）、キャリー・アンダーウッド（Carrie Underwood）、エド・シーラン（Ed Sheeran）、ルーカス・グラハム（Lukas Graham）、ケルシー・バレリーニ、ビヨンセ、ブルーノ・マーズ（Bruno Mars）、ケイティ・ペリー（Katy Perry）、マレン・モリス、アリシア・キーズ（Alicia Keys）、メタリカ（John Legend）、レディ・ガガ（Lady Gaga）、ジョン・レジェンド（John Legend）ら各音楽分野の豪華スターが集結しジャンルを超えた華やかな競演と共に観客を熱狂させました。

グラミー賞授与式では亡くなったアーティストや記念となるアーティストへのトリビュートとしてパフォーマンスが毎年捧げられるものの、今年は全体的にそのパフォーマンスの占める割合が特に高い傾向に。昨年クリスマスに53歳で亡くなった英ジョージ・マイケル（George Michael）へのトリビュートとして黒いドレスに身を纏い登場したアデルは「Fastlove」を披露。
ジョージ・マイケルのスクリーンをバックにピアノの伴奏で「Fastlove」を歌い始めるも、（まさかの）中断。昨年グラミー賞パフォーマンス「All I Ask」でピアノ伴奏の音響の不具合に見まわれながらも歌い続け「ク（※翻訳自粛※）になったわ」とツイートした過去が誰もがよぎる中、目に涙を浮かべる28歳は「ライブ放送だとはわかってるわ、（※放送禁止用語※）ッてしまったわ、ごめんなさい去年のようなことにはできないわ。本当にごめんなさい。もう一度最初からやり直したくて、ごめんなさい。最初からお願いしてもいい?ごめんなさい…、彼のことを思うと台無しにしたくなくて。ごめんなさい、ごめんなさい、本当にごめんなさい」。リハーサルではうまくいっていたものの、本番には感極まり涙するアデルは異例となる歌い直しに。会場の応援の声に温かく包まれる中、持ち前の心震える情感溢れる歌声でジョージ・マイケルの96年のヒット曲「Fastlove」を歌い上げ、数々の称賛の声が寄せられます。
トリビュート・パフォーマンス・ライブ
また映画『サタデー・ナイト・フィーバー』サントラ収録の英ビージーズ（Bee Gees）による「Stayin’ Alive」リリース40周年を記念し、メンバーのバリー・ギブ（Barry Gibb）が見守る中、米デミ・ロヴァート（Demi Lovato）が「Stayin’ Alive」を披露、それに続き、米トリー・ケリー（Tori Kelly）による「Tragedy」、米リトル・ビッグ・タウン（Little Big Town）による「How Deep Is Your Love」、米アンドラ・デイ（Andra Day）による「Night Fever」が披露されます。
さらに昨年4月に亡くなった米プリンス（Prince）へのトリビュートとして、米モリス・デイ（Morris Day）と米ザ・タイム（The Time）が「Jungle Love」、「The Bird」を、そしてブルーノ・マーズが「Let’s Go Crazy」を披露しその巧みなブルーノのギター演奏とともにその会場を盛り上げました。
そして最後に、トリを務めるジョン・レジェンドと英シンシア・エリボ（Cynthia Erivo）が米ザ・ビーチ・ボーイズ（The Beach Boys）の「God Only Knows」で昨年亡くなったアーティストらに追悼を捧げ、その豪華アーティストらによるパフォーマンスの幕を閉じます。
